The Toyota Tacoma exterior has been restyled and the interior upgraded for all 2012 models. The best-selling compact pickup truck in the U.S. market also received the new Entune audio system.

The redesigned hood, grille, headlamps and front bumper give the Tacoma a fresh look. Inside, the center-instrument panel features a new design and revised gauge cluster, as well as a new steering wheel. The redesigned center stack provides new power point locations and air conditioner/heater controls.

The updated Tacoma interior sports a black, high-contrast center console, switch plate covers, dash and upper trim with the SR5 grade receiving a new seat fabric design. New, heavy-duty all-weather flooring is offered in the 2012 Tacoma Access and Double Cab models. The specialized TRD Sport and Off-Road models offer new, water-resistant fabric protection seats. Side mirrors with turn signal lamps and chrome-clad 18-inch wheels will be available with the TRD Sport Package for 2012.

The available back-up camera is complemented by a larger, higher-resolution display. A new temperature gauge, available rear-view mirror with compass and HomeLink, vanity lamps installed in the sun visors, additional overhead storage compartment and on Access Cab models, new rear-console storage box will be available.

The 2012 Tacoma models will employ four-cylinder and V6 engines with 2WD and 4WD drivetrains.

New Audio Choices for 2012

Upgraded audio systems will vary in the Tacoma models.

Access Cab models offer a new six-speaker system with an AM/FM/Satellite Radio-capable head unit and single-disc CD player. A USB port enables MP3 player connection and Bluetooth allows hands-free phone usage.

Offered in the DoubleCab V6 model is a more advanced display audio system with navigation, Toyota Entune services, SiriusXM Satellite Radio (90-day trial), HD radio and text/email-to-voice. The system plays through a seven-speaker JBL GreenEdge audio system.

Curious about Entune?

From Toyota:

The Toyota Entune system is a collection of popular mobile applications and data services, with three years of complimentary access. Once a smart phone is connected to the vehicle using Bluetooth wireless technology or a USB cable, Entune’s features are operated using the vehicle’s controls or, for some services, by voice recognition. Entune includes BingTM and Pandora®; real-time info including traffic, weather, fuel prices, sports and stocks. Apps available in spring 2012 at no charge include iHeartRadio, MovieTickets.com and OpenTable®. See toyota.com/entune for details.

From Toyota:

Performance
The 2012 Tacoma line offers two engines: a 2.7-liter Dual Overhead Cam (DOHC) four-cylinder that produces 159 horsepower and 180 lb-ft. of torque, and a 4.0-liter DOHC V6 that provides 236 horsepower with 266 lb-ft. of torque. In both engines, variable valve timing with intelligence (VVT-i) provides strong low-end and mid-range torque.

An Electronic Throttle Control System with intelligence helps optimize performance and fuel economy. The V6 can be teamed with either a six-speed manual or a five-speed automatic transmission. Four-cylinder models offer a choice between a five-speed manual and a four-speed automatic transmission. When equipped with a V6 Tow Package, Access Cab models boast a maximum tow capacity of up to 6,500 pounds.

From Toyota:

X-Runner: A Unique Sport Truck
The Tacoma X-Runner performance truck, unique in the entire compact truck category, returns for 2012 and features the 4.0-liter V6 engine with a specially tuned chassis. Featuring a six-speed manual transmission, the X-Runner can accelerate from 0-to-60 mph in less than seven seconds. Just as impressive, the Tacoma X-Runner can achieve lateral acceleration in excess of 0.9-g - comparable to many performance cars. The X-Runner’s Access Cab design incorporates a full body kit, a hood scoop and integrated fog lamps. The color-keyed monochromatic exterior comes in three colors - Barcelona Red, Black Sand Pearl and Nautica Blue Metallic, which is new for 2012.

To take performance even higher, TRD offers a 4.0-liter V6 supercharger kit capable of generating 304 horsepower and 334 lbs.-ft. of torque also available for other Tacoma V6 models). The design uses Eaton Roots-type rotating components in a one-piece supercharger plenum/manifold casting. The supercharger is fully warranted for up to five years or 60,000 miles or the remainder of the powertrain warranty at the time of installation when installed by a Toyota dealer.

T|X Packages for the Hardcore Pickup Fan

The TRD Off-Road Package will also have T|X and T|X Pro Packages, adding a concept look to the Tacoma V6 Access Cab or V6 Double Cab PreRunner and 4×4 models. The look uses 16-inch black alloy bead-lock wheels and 265/70R16 BFGoodrich Rugged Trail tires. Black tube-side steps, a stainless steel exhaust tip and exterior graphics add to the T|X custom feel.

In the T|X Pro you’ll see a performance-oriented package with a TRD cat-back performance exhaust system adding power and decibels to the V6. With both T|X Packages, the TRD Off-Road Packages provide a carefully tuned balance of off-road performance and on-road handling.

From Toyota:

The TRD Off-Road Package underlying both T|X editions provides a carefully tuned balance of off-road performance and on-road handling. Chassis modifications include an electronic locking rear differential, progressive-rate front springs, specially tuned Bilstein shock absorbers, a 28-mm front stabilizer bar and BFGoodrich Rugged Trail tires. Fog lamps top off the package for a tough, sporty appearance. Both the TRD Off-Road Package and TRD Sport Package have a 400W/115V powerpoint in the bed; sport seats with adjustable lumbar support and unique fabric, and an overhead console with a compass and outside temperature display. Double Cab and Access Cab models also offer a back-up monitor system.

Limited Warranty

As always, Toyota’s 36-month/36,000 mile basic new-vehicle warranty applies to all components other than normal wear and maintenance. Additional warranties cover the powertrain and corrosion with no mileage limitation.

Tuesday was the unveiling of the redesigned 2012 Toyota Camry. The new Camry has a more spacious interior, quieter ride and sophisticated new design according to Toyota.

“The all-new 2012 Camry blends an evolution of the car’s values - such as comfort, efficiency, reliability and safety - with a more appealing design and engaging driving experience,” said Bob Carter, Toyota Division group vice president and general manager in a released statement. “Competition in the midsize sedan segment is the strongest it’s ever been, and the all-new Camry is designed to maintain its long-standing leadership while also broadening its appeal.”

2012 Toyota Camry XLE

The new Camry has many features. Included are highlights from the announcement.

From Toyota:

Performance and Efficiency

The DOHC 3.5-liter V6, available in the SE and XLE grades, delivers 268 horsepower at 6,200 rpm and 248 lb.-ft. of peak torque at 4,700 rpm. Enhancements to this engine boost its fuel economy to projected EPA-estimated ratings of 21 mpg city/30 mpg highway, the best for any current V6 midsize sedan.

All-New Camry Hybrid Sets New Standard for Mid-size Hybrid Sedans

The all-new Camry Hybrid debuts a highly revised version of the brand’s Hybrid Synergy Drive powertrain, including a new 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine. The 2012 Camry Hybrid LE, with EPA-estimated 43 mpg city/39 mpg highway/41 mpg combined, yields a more-than-30 percent boost in fuel economy in the EPA city and combined driving cycles, compared to the previous generation, thanks largely to the new hybrid powertrain, but also due to lighter vehicle weight and optimized aerodynamics.

Grade Strategy

The all-new Camry and Camry Hybrid will offer six different model grades to choose from. The Camry will be available in the entry-level L, value-driven LE, premium XLE and sporty SE grades. The XLE and SE are available with four-cylinder or V6 engines. The Camry Hybrid is offered in LE and XLE grades.

Exterior Design

The 2012 Camry employs an elegantly simple but modern form, emphasizing a wider, lower stance than previous models. The design conveys an “architectural statement” through crisp, precise character lines, while a more strongly curved door cross-section and more defined rocker panel molding (chrome accented on LE and XLE) give the Camry a more expressive appearance.

Read more here.

Interior Design

While featuring nearly the same external dimensions as the previous generation, the 2012 Camry offers a more inviting and spacious interior. A new dashboard design, modified seat locations, redesigned seats and “lean” door, pillar and headliner trim all combine to add both real space and greater perceptual spaciousness while also enhancing outward visibility. Repositioning the driver’s seat and the standard tilt/telescoping steering wheel (tilt has increased 33 percent for greater driver comfort) also aid forward visibility and enhance the driver’s positioning.

Advanced Connectivity

Seamlessly integrated into the Camry are state-of-the-art electronics and enhanced connectivity features. A Bluetooth wireless connection for compatible hands-free phone calls is standard, now improved by an available automatic phone book transfer function. Also standard is a USB port that allows playing of music and video from portable audio devices, using the vehicle sound system and available in-dash display screen, including full iPod integration.

Entune Multimedia System

Camry will be one of the first Toyotas to offer the Entune multimedia system. For the first time ever in a Toyota automobile, this new system leverages the mobile smartphone to provide a richer in-vehicle experience with fully integrated access to navigation, entertainment and information services.

A New Benchmark for Midsize Sedan Quietness

Long lauded as a benchmark for ride smoothness and quietness in the midsize segment, the all-new Camry resets the standard by taking both attributes to an even higher level of refinement. To reduce noise throughout the entire cabin, focus was placed on suppressing noises that stand out. As powertrains have become more refined and quieter, wind noise and road noise have tended to become more noticeable to drivers and passengers. A low noise reading (in decibels) does not always equate to a subjectively quiet interior. Vehicle occupants’ perception of quietness also depends on the type and frequency of the sound.

Exceptional Handling and Ride

A more rigid body structure, revised front suspension, redesigned rear suspension and aerodynamics all help to imbue the new Camry with greater straight-line stability and crisper steering response, while also enhancing overall ride comfort. Handling stability, more than just conveying a sense of driving enjoyment, also greatly influences the driver’s feeling of security.

Read more here.

Safety and Security

All 2012 Camry models are equipped with 10 standard airbags: dual-stage advanced SRS front airbags, front and rear seat-mounted side airbags, side curtain airbags and a driver’s and front passenger’s knee airbag. The front-passenger’s knee airbag and rear-seat side airbags are new to Camry.

Read more here.

Peace of Mind Warranty Protection

Toyota’s 36-month/36,000 mile basic new-vehicle warranty applies to all components other than normal wear and maintenance items. Additional 60-month warranties cover the powertrain for 60,000 miles and against corrosion with no mileage limitation. The hybrid-related components, including the HV battery, battery control module, hybrid control module and inverter with converter, are covered for eight years/100,000 miles. The Camry will also come standard with Toyota Care, a complimentary plan covering normal factory-scheduled maintenance and 24-hour roadside assistance for two years or 25,000 miles, whichever comes first.

Pricing

The Camry L will start at $21,955 and increases with each grade up to the XLE priced at $29,845. The Hybrid LE is marked at $25,900 and the Hybrid XLE starts at $27,400.

Toyota Agrees to Ambitious New Fuel Economy Standards

Toyota’s Jim Lentz joined President Obama and other automotive leaders this morning to announce a new agreement on fuel economy standards. Under the new standards, average fleet fuel efficiency will nearly double to 54.5 mpg. This will be phased in from 2017 to 2025.

“I am pleased to be in Washington today to demonstrate Toyota’s unyielding commitment to this important process. The long-term objectives of this program are very ambitious, and we intend to meet the challenge.” Jim Lentz, Toyota President & COO, Toyota Motor Sales, USA, Inc. continued. “Toyota has embarked on the most aggressive expansion of hybrid, electric and hydrogen fuel cell cars of any automaker, and we are committed to continuing our demonstrated environmental leadership.

“We share the Administration’s goal of achieving major advances in clean, fuel efficient vehicles. Obviously, there is still a great deal of uncertainty as to how the market will respond and what vehicle technologies consumers will embrace, which is why we are rolling out and testing a range of alternative fuel options. As the rule-making process moves forward, we look forward to working closely and constructively with the Administration and other stakeholders to ensure that we realize our shared environmental goals in the most economically-effective and consumer-friendly ways possible.”

Toyota Employees in Japan Donate to Alabama and Mississippi Tornado Disaster Relief Efforts

In the aftermath following the tornados that struck parts of the southern United States earlier this spring, Toyota’s Japan employees asked how they could reciprocate the gesture of giving to those in need. This week, Toyota and its Japan employees announced a $330,000 donation to the tornado relief efforts to be evenly distributed between the disaster relief programs in Alabama and Mississippi.

Commenting on the new donation, Steve St. Angelo, executive vice president of Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing North America, Inc., said, “We are grateful to our colleagues in Japan for their generosity to the tornado relief efforts particularly during their own difficult time following the March 11 earthquake and tsunami. Many of our Japanese colleagues and their families have worked and lived in parts of the U.S. where the tornados struck and many more regularly work with affected manufacturing plants, suppliers and dealerships in the region. They wanted to help and their donation demonstrates the true human spirit of reaching out to those in need. We deeply appreciate their thoughtfulness.”

Toyota and its North American employees in May donated $1 million dollars to the American Red Cross for tornado relief efforts in all affected states and regions across the country.

Toyota Named Among Best Companies for Diversity by Black Enterprise

Toyota was named among the 40 Best Companies for Diversity by Black Enterprise. The annual list, included in the July 2011 issue of the magazine, recognizes 40 companies that have demonstrated significant representation of African Americans and other ethnic minorities in areas including supplier diversity, senior management, board of directors and total employment. Toyota was recognized for its achievements in the area of supplier diversity.

This is the sixth consecutive year that Toyota has been included among the Best Companies for Diversity. The list is compiled based on the results of a comprehensive survey of the top 1,000 publicly traded companies in the United States, as well as global companies with significant U.S. operations.

“At Toyota, diversity and inclusion have always been among our top priorities, and we are honored to be recognized by Black Enterprise,” said Dian Ogilvie, senior vice president and chief diversity officer at Toyota Motor North America. “We believe constant growth towards a more inclusive environment is imperative not only in developing and retaining a talented workforce, but in fostering a corporate environment that mirrors the communities in which we do business. As we remain committed to continuously improving, we will work closely with our senior managers and Diversity Advisory Board to enhance our efforts even further.”

In 2001 Toyota launched its 21st Century Diversity Strategy, which set tangible diversity targets in areas including employment, procurement and dealer development. Working closely with its external Diversity Advisory Board, a seven-member board chaired by former Secretary of Labor Alexis Herman, Toyota has made strong progress, including more than doubling its annual spending with diverse suppliers. In addition, people of color now represent nearly 30 percent of Toyota’s employment.

The Best Companies for Diversity is just one of Toyota’s latest recognitions for its efforts in diversity and inclusion. Other honors include:

Inclusion among Diversity Inc.’s Top 50 Companies for Diversity for five years

Inclusion in the Human Rights Campaign “Best Places to Work Corporate Equality Index” for the past four years

Induction into the Billion Dollar Roundtable, in recognition of over $1 billion in annual spending with certified ethnic and women-owned suppliers

“Corporation of the Year” award from the National Minority Supplier Development Council (NMSDC)

“Distinguished Supplier Diversity Award” from the Minority Business Development Agency (MBDA)

“The companies selected for distinction in this list not only demonstrated a commitment to diversity, but viewed it as a business imperative,” said Black Enterprise Careers & Lifestyle Editorial Director Sonia Alleyne. “The strength of Toyota’s network of minority suppliers enables the company to be even more competitive on a global scale.”

For our St. Augustine Scion fans, 2012 models arriving this summer and a new four seater revealed this week that will debut early 2012. It’s pretty cool to be a Scion!

iQ = 10 Feet and 4 Seats

Scion announced this week that the 2012 iQ premium micro-subcompact will begin arriving at St. Augustine Scion early 2012. The Scion iQ is only 10 feet long yet seats four people, making it the world’s smallest four-seater.

“Scion prides itself on being an innovative brand with a lineup of iconic vehicles that set automotive trends,” said Jack Hollis, vice president of Scion. “The iQ is the fourth vehicle in the family, and it will define the premium micro-subcompact segment as the choice for new urbanites who want clever transportation without a sacrifice in style or new features.”

Meeting the needs of a new trendsetting generation of urban drivers, the iQ succeeds at taking big ideas and concentrating them into a small package. Made possible by intelligent and functional packaging, the iQ is a small car that offers the functionality and comfort that drivers expect from a car twice its size.

Intelligent Design, Not Sacrifice
Instead of sacrificing features or comfort to reduce its footprint, the iQ relies on intelligent design. Six engineering innovations are responsible for the iQ’s ability to be small in size, but large in capability. A compact front-mounted differential, high-mount steering rack with electronic power-steering, and a compact air-conditioning unit all amount to significant decreases in front-end length. In addition, the iQ is equipped with a flat gas tank housed beneath the floor that reduces rear overhang. Slim-back front seats optimize rear legroom, while the “3+1” offset seating arrangement allows one adult to sit behind the front passenger and a child or small package behind the driver.

Driving Performance of a Larger Car
With a 78.7-inch wheelbase and a unique suspension design – consisting of MacPherson struts up front, and a compact torsion beam rear suspension – the three-door hatchback can deftly maneuver through city traffic. In addition, its overall length of only 120.1-inches, and short front and rear overhangs allows the iQ to fit into virtually any urban parking scenario. Although short in length, the iQ has a wide stance at 66.1-inches, giving it a confident stance that handles like a much larger car. Read more.

St. Augustine Scion will keep you posted on more details on the iQ.

2012 Scion Model Pricing Announced with Advanced Audio System

Scion announced its first release series for the second generation tC sports coupe, the 2012 tC Release Series 7.0 (tC RS 7.0), will be available at St. Augustine Toyota/Scion this summer. Scion is also pleased to announce that the 2012 tC sports coupe will come standard with a new Pioneer™ audio system that features Bluetooth® hands-free, Bluetooth® streaming audio and HD Radio™ technology.

2012 tC Release Series 7.0
The 2012 tC Release Series 7.0 comes exclusively in High Voltage yellow exterior paint with contrasting black side view mirrors and black 18-inch alloy wheels. The tC’s aggressive exterior are further stylized with a TRD body kit that includes front and rear lower valences and side skirts. The front bumper incorporates a honeycomb lower grille that is unique to this Release Series.

High Voltage yellow accents make their way into the tC’s interior with color-tuned black and yellow seat fabric, leather wrapped steering wheel with yellow stitching and an individually numbered badge. The tC RS 7.0 features Smart Key, a convenient keyless entry system that unlocks the doors with a touch of the door handle. The system also includes a red TRD push-button start allowing the car to be started with the push of a button. The use of the Smart Key system is a first for Scion.

Scion will only build 2,200 units of the tC RS 7.0. The limited edition model will carry a manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP) of $20,905 and $21,905 when equipped with a manual and automatic transmission respectively. The MSRP does not include a delivery, processing and handling fee of $720.

The launch of the tC RS 7.0 will be launched with a new advertising campaign, starring a very lighthearted Zeus on his Mount Olympus throne, who describes himself as the God of Awesome — and then creates the High Voltage tC using his legendary lightning bolt. With the help of a lovely Muse, Zeus has a great time driving the tC and highlighting its features. See the :30 spot or http://www.youtube.com/v/Sa1XbhJDN8k. Read more.

Connectivity is achieved by simply plugging the portable music player, including iPod® and iPhone®, into the USB or AUX port. The head unit’s screen displays track number, track name and artist information from select USB units. The audio system provides outstanding sound quality through the car’s stereo system and constant power to select iPods®. Music is controlled through the head unit and the steering wheel audio control buttons for radio, CD and certain USB devices. iPod® users can also use an alphabetical speed search to find a specific artist or album.

Boxy Design
The second generation xB stands aggressively with pronounced fenders. Elongated headlamps that wrap around the side of the vehicle and a rectangular grille provide the xB’s assertive fascia. Soft angles between wide and flat paneling and a high beltline create the iconic boxy profile.

Performance and Handling
The 2012 xB features a 2.4-liter dual overhead-cam four-cylinder engine with Variable Valve Timing with intelligence (VVT-i), produces 158 horsepower and is rated California Level II Ultra Low Emission Vehicle (ULEV-II).
The Toyota Prius, the best-selling hybrid in America, offers an exciting new accessory package. First debuted at the 2010 Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) Show — the Prius PLUS Performance Package features components of the new PLUS hybrid performance line from Toyota Racing Development (TRD).

Developed to meet the evolving demands of the growing hybrid segment, PLUS enhances the driving experience for Toyota hybrid enthusiasts by offering cool and fun accessories that add sporty looks with performance handling. It features several Toyota accessories that complement the Prius’ core values of Eco and Advanced Technology. PLUS is an evolution of hybrid design, where fuel-efficiency co-exists with aggressive styling and performance handling. St. Augustine Toyota could not be more excited about giving more to our Prius loyalists.

Available only in limited quantity, the new Prius PLUS Performance Package allows you to choose from four of the popular Prius colors: Blizzard Pearl, Classic Silver Metallic, Black and Winter Gray Metallic. The added features of the PLUS make this the most fun-to-drive, performance-enhanced Prius, while maintaining its industry-leading fuel efficiency.

The Prius PLUS Performance Package starts with a seven-piece aerodynamic ground effects kit that delivers an aggressive and lower-profile stance. It includes front and rear bumper spoilers, sleek side skirts and a uniquely styled rear diffuser. The custom body kit was aerodynamically designed and engineered to reduce the vehicle’s coefficient of drag, maintaining its already great fuel efficiency.

Complementing the body kit are race-inspired 17-inch forged alloy wheels. The higher strength-to-weight ratio reduces the upsprung weight, assists in keeping the corner weight down and performance up, while maintaining the Prius’ overall light vehicle weight and high fuel efficiency. The wheels are fitted with low profile 215/45R17 tires and have a custom offset, which increases track width yet maintaining Prius’ low rolling resistance. The attractive split five-spoke pattern with a liquid metal protective finish will keep the appearance looking great.

The performance side of the PLUS package delivers excellent traction and handling that will surprise any automotive enthusiast without sacrificing fuel efficiency. The track-tuned lowering springs lower the vehicle 1.1 inches in the front and 1.3 inches in the rear. This enhances the vehicle’s on-road performance through quicker turn-in, enhanced steering response and improved cornering ability. A tuned rear sway bar is added to help reduce body lean for flatter cornering and maneuverability. This helps provide the driver control and confidence while touring, mountain driving or just plain having fun. The sway bar is constructed of high carbon spring steel, powder coated to prevent corrosion and road damage.

Finishing off this exciting package is custom badging for an exclusive look combined with limited-edition PLUS logo carpet floor mats for that extra custom touch.

The new Prius PLUS Performance Package represents the first installment of the new PLUS brand of accessories from Toyota. Available as an add-on option on all Prius models, the PLUS Performance Package adds accessories in a unique combination at a special value price of $3,699 for Prius Two, Three, and Four models and $2,999 for the Prius Five. Ordering for the limited production 2011 Prius PLUS Performance Package will begin this month. St. Augustine Toyota will keep you posted on when it arrives.
North American vehicle production levels are expected to return to 100 percent in September, Toyota said today. Production is recovering earlier than originally anticipated following the March 11 earthquake and tsunami in Japan.

On average, current production has improved to more than 80 percent through August. Eight of the company’s 12 North American-built models returned to 100 percent production on June 6.

“After September we will focus on making-up lost production as much as possible,” said Steve St. Angelo, executive vice president of Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing, North America. “Our team members and suppliers here and in Japan have worked tirelessly to get us back to 100 percent, overcoming many challenges. The effort in Japan has been incredible, especially in the midst of such tragedy and devastation.”

Bob Carter, group vice president and Toyota Division general manager, Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A., Inc., said, “The rapid production recovery proves once again that Toyota’s manufacturing team members in North America and around the world are the best in the business.” Carter added, “Thanks to their efforts, our dealers have a healthy supply of cars and trucks available to sell, with more arriving every day, along with competitive lease and APR programs for our customers.”

Toyota announced the first 25 winners of the Toyota 100 Cars for Good program earlier this month and today we are 50. This special program awards 100 vehicles over the course of 100 days to 100 deserving non-profits. Winners of the Toyota 100 Cars for Good program are determined based on voting from the public. Each day, five organizations are profiled on Toyota’s Facebook page where the public is invited to show their support by voting to determine the winning nonprofit organization.

Each daily winner will be awarded a new Toyota vehicle to help the organizations continue to do “good” in their local communities. The remaining finalists will each receive a $1000 grant from Toyota.

The first 25 winners spanned several categories including animal welfare & wildlife, arts & culture, education, health & safety, and human services. From promoting the mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being of adolescents to alleviating the suffering of abandoned, abused and injured animals, a variety of worthy causes were shared on the finalists’ profiles and ultimately selected by the public to receive a new vehicle to further support their missions.

Each day, the previous day’s winner will be announced and five new nonprofit organizations will be featured for voting. Winning organizations can choose from the following vehicles: Prius, Tacoma, Tundra, Highlander Hybrid, Sienna or Sienna Mobility. With each vehicle, Toyota Financial Services will provide a six-year, 100,000 mile Toyota Vehicle Service Agreement to provide extended protection beyond the vehicle warranty.

The 500 finalists, from which the 100 winners are ultimately selected, were chosen by an independent panel of judges who are experts in the fields of philanthropy and corporate social responsibility. There are several Central and North Florida nonprofits: Atlantic Center for the Arts, My Angel with Paws, Marion County Children’s Alliance and more.

Any big trips planned with the kid(s) this summer? If you are in the car for more than an hour, it can seem like eternity with a bored nagging child. There are so many ways to have fun, learn something and make it to your destination in one piece.

Individual Activities
Toddlers
A great way to keep toddlers entertained is to purchase four or five new, inexpensive toys, wrap the toys like gifts, and give kids one to open every half-hour or hour. Kids love to unwrap presents, and not only will the unwrapping keep them entertained, they will also have something new to play with in the car. Some good toys to buy beforehand are crayons and coloring books, flash cards, or small puzzles that can be worked on a lap desk. These can also be used as rewards for being good in the car.

Preschoolers
For preschoolers, bring Play-Doh and a workable surface, such as a lap desk or large book covered in waxed paper. Challenge kids to think of things they might see on the trip (palm trees, fish, Grandma’s dog) and create those things with Play-Doh. Parents could have a contest for the best creation, supplying a “prize” for the best one. Play-Doh can be a bit messy, but it may be worth the cleanup time to keep kids happy in the car.

Older Kids
A good idea for older kids is to buy a stack of crossword puzzles and word search books, playing cards, and comic books. Let them choose a few at a time, according to interest. Chapter books are always a good idea for kids who enjoy reading. They key is to buy something new specifically for the trip, so the interest level will be high.

DVDs and Video Games
This is a great option when the drive is not so scenic or it’s dark outside. If your Toyota is not equipped with the rear seat entertainment options, you can set up the following:

Transform your Camry or Sienna into the ultimate entertainment machine with a Genuine Toyota rear-seat entertainment system. Keep the kids engaged and the adults intrigued with this innovative system that lets your rear-seat passengers watch movies, play video games, listen to music and more. Call St. Augustine Toyota to find out the options available for your Toyota.

Buy or borrow a portable DVD Player. You can set up the DVD player on the middle console of the front seat or set on the child’s lap. Makes sure to bring a variety of movies and videos. You can get free copies from the library or a friend. And also think about videos that educate your children about your destination or fun exercises. They can be entertained and educated at the same time.

Family Activities
Individual activities are fun, but part of the pleasure of a long car ride is the time spent together. Families today are so pressed for time, and often there is simply not enough time left over at the end of the day for bonding. Use travel time as a means of interacting and enjoying one another’s company.

Looking for a variation on the license plate game? Try playing the alphabet game instead. Challenge kids to find cars with model names that begin with A through Z. The only rule is that the cars must be found in alphabetical order. This is a fun game that could last for a while. Or start with naming an animal that starts with an “A” and have your kids take turns listing others for the rest of the letters of the alphabet. Establish a rule that you’ll skip over “Q” and “X”!

Use the time together to reminisce about favorite family memories. Does anyone remember the time Aunt Lucy accidentally dyed her hair purple? Or how about the time the Christmas tree fell over in the middle of the night? Use the time together to laugh and bond.

Other Family Games
Make a scavenger hunt of the trip and list a few things they should watch for. Some suggestions: Owls, old tires on the side of the road, weird sculptures/ landmarks and a vintage car. Reward kids with their favorite snack once they’ve found them all.

Counting Cows Car Game What’s the best way to count cows? With a COW-culator of course! Here’s how to play the countin’ cows timeless road trip game, and some funny cow jokes to tell while you play. Give prizes out when you hit a milestone number.

License Plate Game Give them a printable page to check off each state license plate sightings!

Play Cards! Old Maid & Crazy 8’s How to play classic card games your kids will love.

Find the games that work for you!

Postcards
Have kids use the time to write postcards to friends and family members about the things they are seeing. This is a great way to share memories with others.

On the way to the destination, stop at gas stations in various cities and buy postcards. Kids can tell about the things they are seeing as they drive. Purchase postcards while on vacation and let kids write to grandparents and friends on the way home about what they saw. If friends and neighbors from home are going on vacation at the same time, kids can do a “postcard exchange” when they return home.

A little creativity and planning can cut down on the fighting and fussing and leave fond family memories of your time together — on the road and off.
